A Program for students

Are you a student looking to make a difference in the lives of patients at Siddhasthali Rural Community Hospital? If so, our "Elective Exchange" program could be a perfect option for you!
Our goal of this program is to allow international medical students studying abroad to participate in clinical clerkships at the Siddhasthali Rural Community Hospital under the supervision of the physicians of the various departments. These electives will enable students to experience first hand the practice of medicine at the rural Nepal.

Working Conditions

• Available to International Medical Students.
• 6-day week, Sunday to Friday, about 8 hours per day.
• Applications will be accepted for 3-weeks minimum and no more than 6 weeks.
• Most departments have a 2-4 week time frame.
• You can apply to up to 4 departments in one elective period.
• Please note that in Nepal the weekend is during Saturday (Sunday is a workday).
• Your first day at the department should be Sunday.

When to apply

• At least 1 months in advance.
• Applications received before or after that time frame- will not be accepted!

Our Satellite Clinics

Electives are available in our satellites clinics as well.

Health Insurance

• You are required to have a valid health insurance (travel insurance for international students).

Liability

• While visiting the “Siddhasthali Rural Community Hospital”, you are not covered for malpractice insurance. Therefore you may not decide on medical treatment for patients and you cannot replace the medical team of the hospital.

Accomodation

Students are responsible for accommodation and for all their living and traveling expenses.
We can provide you accommodation at a home stay or at our hospital accommodation. Hospital accommodation is limited. Therefore students will have to book in advance.
All rooms are shared by not more than two people.

After making sure you are eligible for applying and decided to which department you want to apply to, make sure you have all the following forms to submit:
1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2. At least one reference
Please make sure to upload all documents clear and as PDF or WORD files. Incomplete application material including documents will not be handled or processed.

Application Timetable

1. All applications should be submitted at least 1 months before arrival day!
2. Applications should not be submitted more than 10 months in advance.
3. Applications are reviewed within 2 weeks.
Important: The non-refundable application fee of $50 should be submitted along with the above documents.
